PAST/BIO: Verity Reynolds was born in the Millwall area of London’s East End, on October 27, 1980. Her father worked for UNIT and her mother was a housewife. Both her parents were from the East End and had remained there to stay close to her mother’s family. He father was an only child whose parents had died before she was born. When Vera was thirteen, her mother was killed in a car accident, and her father moved them both to Westminster. In spite of the move though, Vera has always maintained a distinctly cockney accent. Vera and her father were never especially close, considering his work for UNIT kept him busy, and she mostly kept to herself, doing well in school in hopes of making her own life.
She went to Cambridge after she completed her A-Levels, and was recruited by UNIT straight out of university, working closely with Torchwood London as something of a liason between the two organisations in the weapons division of Research and Development. She was one of the twenty-seven survivors of the battle of Canary Wharf, and she returned to UNIT in the aftermath, preferring to focus on work rather than deal with the losses suffered in the battle. The way she saw it, with something as devastating as that battle, you just had to move on and keep working, or you never would. She rose to the rank of Captain, before talk began of reopening Torchwood One.
There were a few candidates to head up Torchwood 1.1, but in the end it was Verity who was made leader of the London branch, and she began assembling a team. She wanted Torchwood 1.1 to be more in line with the policies of Torchwood 3, not wanting to follow in the mistakes of Yvonne Hartman.
